Cellulite is an unwelcome problem on many bodies and many people are more than willing to try different ways to get rid of it. The condition is a build-up of fat deposits and fluids under the skin and can be caused by a variety of factors including poor diet, lack of proper exercise, genetics, hormones and even the fabrics of the clothing worn. It often appears on the legs, abdomen, upper arms and buttocks. The basis of a good scrub is an exfoliant. An exfoliant is an abrasive substance, and the reason for the name “scrub”. Some people even use crushed aspirin as it not only has a gentle scrubbing characteristic, but it also can help clear up blemishes because of the salicylic acid within. It is important to note that there are some claims that an aspirin scrub might have adverse effects to those with asthma and also should not ever be used on anyone under the age of 15 (because rare reactions have been note).

Oils

The next ingredient to add to the scrub base is oil or oils. The oil not only softens and thins out the scrub so that it can be moved around the skin easily, but often has its own beneficial properties. Also, this is where a lot of that great aromatherapy comes from! Some great therapeutic options include tea tree, orange, peppermint, rosemary or even olive or coconut oils. Try mixing small amounts of the base with the different oils to see which scents work best together. A couple of examples would be a coffee peppermint scrub or a sunny orange and sugar scrub. Chamomile oil and Lavender oil are great for a night time scrub before bed.

You can find most ingredients to make your own scrubs at local health food stores or online on holistic sites or markets like www.amazon.com. If you don’t feel like making your own, there are definitely lots of options for pre-packaged scrubs in many different scents and styles. Here are some great suggestions to get you started:

Other Ways to Rid Your Body of Cellulite

Issues that encourage cellulite are toxins in the body, high sugar intake, nicotine and alcohol, lack of exercise, poor circulation and inelastic connective tissue. Getting rid of cellulite is a serious business and if you remain determined, changing many life habits will help. Plenty of healthy foods such as green, leafy vegetables, salads, broccoli, cabbage, berries and bell peppers can only help.

Drinking pure water, at least 8 glasses a day will also help you to clean up your system.  Since cellulite is a form of fat build-up, breaking it down with large amounts of water is definitely a worthwhile effort. Liquid also drives toxins from the body effectively but you should avoid drinking alcohol in order to combat cellulite.
